This guide is designed to provide an insight in to the eating out experience that you can expect when visiting Mumbles and Gower. The reviews are based on our own recent experiences. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to take Buddy to new restaurants.

The Oyster House Hotel

The Oyster House Hotel and cafe bar, is one of the most recent additions to the Oyster Wharf complex on Mumbles waterfront. Dogs are welcomed in the front sections of the cafe area and first floor roof terrace. The terrace offers fantastic views over the bay, I would try and get there for high tide!. The Hotel provides water bowls, There is plenty of shade on the warmer days. There is a side entrance to the cafe to for direct access to the terrace.

Pennard Stores and Three Cliffs Coffee Shop

The Three Cliffs Coffee Cafe is well-known for its delicious homemade food, especially their tasty selection of cakes. They happily welcome dogs and have a special area on the ground floor where pet owners can enjoy their meals together. The cafe is located near stunning walks along the beautiful south Gower cliffs.

Within a 30-minute walk to the west, you can explore Pobbles Bay and Three Cliffs Bay. If you head in the opposite direction, it will take you about 40 minutes to reach the Pwll Du. These beaches are dog-friendly all year round, but during the summer, it can get quite hot, and there isn't much shade available for dogs. It's important to keep your dogs on a leash because there are sheep, cattle, and horses in the area.

If you're looking for local gifts and souvenirs, Pennard Stores offers a great selection. They have a lot of products that are local and Welsh themed. The store feels more like a delicatessen. This is a great option whether you are local or visiting the area. There's some free parking available outside the store, but there's also a larger National Trust car park across the road.

The King’s Head

There are clear signs, both visually and literally that this is one of the most dog-friendly Pubs on Gower. There is a doggy biscuit jar behind the bar and the serving staff quickly brought some treats to all the dogs visiting that day, ……and there were lots! Our canine friends are also catered for on the main menu….. sausages and ice cream. This is clearly a popular destination for dog owners. The outside terrace was busy, dog owners outnumbering those seated by 2:1.

We tried the food, between us we selected Pea and Mint Soup served with Crusty Bread, a Brie and Cranberry Baguette, and the famous King’s Head Burger. We all enjoyed our lunch, the soup was fresh and full of flavour, and the bread was freshly baked. I suspect that the burger was locally sourced and was served with pickles and relish and triple-cooked chips.

In the bar, there is a good variety of beers on draught and bottles of Gower Gold in the fridge. When busy, the Kings has plenty of atmosphere, and the location is inspirational, with views overlooking a Norman church juxtaposed with PJ’s Surf shop. In the distance are the Rhossili Downs and a glimpse of Rhossili Bay. This pub has maintained its character, with significant improvements over the years to enhance the visitor experience, Including cottage-type accommodation at the rear. A popular visitor destination in both summer and winter.

The Britannia Inn

The Britannia inn is more commonly known as ‘The Brit’ and has a well deserved reputation for good quality, locally sourced food. This is a country pub with a traditional cosy ambience. The beer garden overlooks the North Gower salt marshes, famous for the unique herb infused flavour given to local lamb. Dogs are permitted in the bar area and garden. There are plenty of tables that are sheltered from the hot sun in summer. You can discover some great variety filled local walks, including the a 3 hour trek to Whiteford Lighthouse (featured in our walking guides). Inside the pub, you'll find a charming and unique inglenook fireplace with a cozy log burner to warm your legs. No matter the time of year, this 17th-century bar exudes a welcoming and snug atmosphere with its low beamed ceilings, old tiled floor, exposed stone walls, and antique wooden tables and chairs. Some parts of the pub even retain the original bread oven and old gas lamps, adding to its historical charm.

The lounge's beams are said to be from shipwrecks that were salvaged and brought ashore by wreckers to claim their valuable cargo. Despite its dark past in contrast to the treacherous history of Llanmadoc for sailors who were deceitfully drawn ashore, the pub is now a place that instantly embraces and comforts weary travelers. At the bar, you can enjoy a variety of beverages such as real ales, premium lagers, beers, and ciders, along with other typical options you would expect. The bar offers a diverse menu, including a specials board with a wide selection.

Additionally, there is a restaurant (Dogs not permitted) that offers special set menus, a specials board, and an a la carte menu on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday evenings. On Sundays, they serve a traditional Sunday roast and feature locally sourced delicacies like Gower Salt Marsh Lamb, Selwyn's seaweed, Swansea smoked salmon, and Gower gold Ale.

…. My recommendation - Salt Marsh burger washed down with a pint of Gower Gold.

Welcome to Town Country Pub & Kitchen

LLanrhidian, Gower

The Welcome is situated in central Gower and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This is a country pub that is popular with both locals and visitors alike. Dogs are welcome in the bottom bar. On the evening that we visited the bar was busy but there were almost as many dogs as customers. The service was excellent and the bar food was good, There was a variety of specials and the regular menu offers Tapas, pasta and pizza, as well as your regular bar foods. There is a restaurant on the first floor but dogs are not permitted. Dog biscuits are availble in the bar and there are tables outside when the weather is kind.

Langland’s Brasserie

Langland’s Brasserie is fantastically situated, right alongside the beach at Langland. Although dogs are not allowed inside, there is an extensive terrace outside with spectacular views of the beach. Half of this outdoor area is clearly designated for dogs and their owners. Open from morning to late evening, it is a marvelous place to take in the beautiful scenery whilst enjoying a drink, snack or full meal. Warm blankets are readily available when the weather is chilly. The staff welcome dogs and provide treats. Water bowls are placed on the terrace and staff are happy to refill them with fresh water if you have a fussy dog like ours, who will only drink water that has not been touched by another dog. The food, drinks, service and atmosphere at Langland’s Brasserie are consistently great.

Please note that although dogs are welcomed all year round on the terrace at Langland’s Brasserie, the beach itself is out of bounds for dogs during the summer months. We spend a great deal of time at Langland’s Brasserie during late autumn and spring months, but it is difficult for us during the summer as Buddy does not understand why he suddenly cannot run on his favourite beach, when it is just yards away. This may not be a problem for visitors whose dogs are not familiar with this beach and would relax, rather than impatiently waiting to go onto the sand. As an alternative to the beach there is a lovely cliff walk from Langland to Caswell, this takes about 25 minutes, so allow for an hour for a return journey. Dogs should be kept on leads as the path is popular with joggers!.

Croeso Lounge

Oyster Wharf, Mumbles

Croeso is situated right on the promenade in the centre of Mumbles and is wonderful place to visit with your dog. Whether you just want a drink or a full meal, you will be sure of a warm welcome from the friendly and helpful staff. This cafe / restaurant is best described as casual with good WIFI. Croeso Lounge is adjacent to the main promenade with views over Swansea Bay and as a result is very popular with dog owners. It can be very busy at times and you are not always guaranteed a seat inside, especially as only the ground floor is available to dog owners. There are tables and chairs outside.

Your dog will be well catered for with bows of water and doggie treats, while you can choose from the extensive menu that includes favourites such as Tapas, Burgers and a selection of breakfasts. Open from early till late this popular lounge bar has a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Seafront, Mumbles

Situated opposite the seafront, in Mumbles, this is a great choice for a really dog friendly restaurant, where you can enjoy a hearty meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dogs are welcomed and there is a spacious and comfortable dog friendly area. There is a good choice of meals, including vegetation options and children’s menu. On a recent visit, we enjoyed the Fresh Fish Menu and the complimentary salad bar. Buddy really appreciated the friendly staff and the carpet to stretch out on

The Surfside Cafe’s,

Rotherslade Bay, Langland Bay and Caswell Bay

The Surfside Cafes are a firm favourite with dog owners all year round. They have always welcomed dogs and proactively celebrate October 1st when dog restrictions are lifted. The menu is cafe based and with breakfast baps, toasted Sandwiches and burgers. The side salad and couscous are always good!. There isice cream, coffee and and cakes available. if you fancy a change try the London Fog and Chai Latte.
