The National Botanic Gardens of Wales
The Botanic Gardens National are located en route to Carmarthen and are set in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside. the Garden is a fascinating blend of the modern and historic.
The garden is both a visitor attraction and a centre for botanical research and conservation, These themed gardens are home to the world’s largest single-span glasshouse. Other notable features include a tropical Butterfly House, play areas and a national nature reserve. The Garden is a registered charity reliant upon funding from visitors, friends, grants and gifts. Significant start-up costs were shared with the UK Millennium Fund.
There are a programme of events and courses throughout the year.
The Garden was first opened to the public on May 24th 2000, and then officially opened on July 21st by the Prince of Wales. The entire site extends to 568 acres. Recycling and conservation have been at the forefront when designing the centres, biomass recycling is used to provide some of the heating for facilities such as the visitor centre and glasshouses.
From Swansea the journey by car will take just over 30 minutes. Take the M4 West towards Carmarthen and Pont Abraham services. At the roundabout take the second exit to join the A48 towards Carmarthen. Take the third exit at the Cross Hands roundabout, remaining on the A48. After about 4 miles there is a slip road signposted B4310 to Nantgaredig. Come off here and follow the brown signs to the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
